Abstract

Present study was carried out to evaluate probiotic potential of novel bacterial strain i.e. L. paraplantarum KM1 (accession number KX671558) isolated 1st time from pooled milk of Himachal Pradesh. L. paraplantarum KM1 exhibited highest viable counts at low acid value (i.e. at pH 2.0 and 3.0), bile tolerance (concentration 0.3%), autoaggregation (36.6%), co-aggregation with pathogenic bacteria (20.0%), cell surface hydrophobicity against O-xylene (95%), antimicrobial activity against various food borne pathogens (inhibition = 100%) and antibiotic sensitivity test which comes out to be sensitive against most of the antibiotics used. These all desirable attributes turn this strain a robust probiotic.
